Director of Tree of Life Immigration Legal-Aid CliniC
,Tree of Life is looking for a new director for our immigration legal-aid clinic. This position combines legal work, ministry and a heart for immigrants. Our congregation sees this ministry as integral to our mission and identity. We are actively praying that the Lord will call a willing servant to this work.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Due to the nature of this work, this position requires a three year commitment.
The Director of the Tree of Life Immigration Legal-Aid Clinic will be responsible for all aspects of running the clinic. These responsibilities include legally assisting clients, recruiting and mentoring volunteers, fundraising, creating a hospitable environment for clients and overseeing publicity/networking. The director should also recruit and maintain an advisory board for the clinic. The person in this position is expected to delegate much of the work of the immigration clinic to volunteers.
Because Tree of Life Anglican Church is first and foremost a Christian ministry, the Director of our Legal Aid Clinic will also help foster relationships and interactions that allow clients and others in the community to experience the reconciling love of Jesus Christ, both in word and action. The clinic director should be an active member of Tree of Life Anglican Church and affirm its mission.
The director is expected to keep regular clinic hours, including a walk-in clinic night. The director shall work together with the Pastor of Tree of Life to determine an appropriate number of clinic hours per-week.
The director must keep careful legal records of all immigration law activities at Tree of Life.
PREREQUISITES
The director must be a college graduate (B.A. or B.S.) and a US Citizen.
He or she must either be DOJ partially or fully accredited to legally assist immigrants, be willing to obtain such accreditation, or be a lawyer (bars from any state may apply, as immigration law is federal). SUPERVISION
The Pastor of Tree of Life Anglican Church is the primary supervisor of the Director of the Immigration Legal Aid Clinic. Tree of Life Mission Council (Vestry) shall also oversee the fulfillment of the mission of the Clinic.
COMPENSATION
The Director will be paid $16 an hour.
The clinic director may take up to 21 sick days and up to five weeks of vacation. Unused sick days and vacation days will not role over to the next year. If there is need of more sick days or vacation time this should be discussed with the pastor and the Mission council (vestry).
EXERCISE Of ORDAINED MINISTRY
This position does not require ordination. However, those ordained to the diaconate or priesthood in the Anglican Church of North America or who are candidates for ordination are also welcome to apply. Ordained persons may choose to take on additional roles within the life of Tree of Life in keeping with their ordinations. Pastors from other Christian traditions may also negotiate ways to minister within our congregation.
Should the director wish to raise support and make this role into a full-time ministry role, Tree of Life has ample needs and opportunities for ministry and outreach into our community.
